Writings

Thank you for taking the time to look at some of my writings. I have written these articles over the past few years, in response to various questions raised by parents, or in response to issues that have arisen in the course of my practice.

My intent is to share my thoughts, and to hopefully answer some questions you may have, as a parent or a person looking for answers. Some day I plan to actually write a book using some of these articles/thoughts, but for the time being, but for the time being, here they are. I look forward to any comments you may have about them, or any ideas these articles might generate. And, please respect the copyright … articles are for individual use … you would like to use for another purpose, please ask. Below are several articles:

Bipolar Disorder in Children: A Call for Caution

This article was written in response to the overwhelming increase in the rate at which children and adolescents are being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I am concerned that we are recklessly plunging forward with diagnosing and heavily medicating these children without knowing if we are right, or what these medications will do to the children over the long term. I know that my view is in the minority, but I believe it is an important view nonetheless.

Diet and School Children

This article was written as part of a possible proposal to a school system about a way of addressing childhood obesity.

Dr. Gransee’s (Legal) Methods for Disciplining Your Children

This article is in response to years of speaking with parents who are frustrated at their inability to control their children’s behaviors. Hopefully, some of these techniques will prove to be useful to you, the reader. Also, this is an incomplete list of techniques … will be adding on others when I get around to it.

Least Restrictive Diagnosing

This is another article I wrote in response to the alarming increase in the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder in children and adolescents. From the Least Restrictive approach, it is imperative that no long-term diagnosis be assigned when a short-term diagnosis will suffice to explain what is being seen.

Minimal Dating As A Result Of Repeated Futile Dating Attempts (pdf)

This is my dissertation … basis of the dissertation was my own dating frustration, and the lack of useful advice/suggestions to address my dating problems. I approached the issue from an ‘attachment disorder’ viewpoint, but more recently, I think I would have approached it more from an ‘emotional intelligence’ or even Asperger’s Disorder explanation.

The Fit Mind

This was my attempt to outline how a mind should work, and is designed to give you some way of doing a ‘mental check-up’ to see if you have any psychological issues that need attention. In my mind, mental health is as important as physical health, BECAUSE and unfit mind will often cause physical problems, and once it has progress to that point, it is hard to come back from.

The Pleasure Principle

My attempt to provide another explanation for what motivates children, and even adults, and which will hopefully provide other ideas on how to influence a child’s behavior, and/or an adult’s behavior.
